The King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me”
(Matthew 25:40 NIV)
In Galatians, the Apostle Paul says “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2 NIV). And Jesus speaks words even more powerful, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another” (John 13:34 NIV). For these compelling reasons, we feel God has led us to create this new program: “Volunteering for Hope.”
We are excited about the ministry Living Hope Nicaragua (LHN) and what God is doing through the different social programs we already have in progress. We are also excited about the new programs we are creating. We are continuing to seek God’s guidance and working hard to follow where we feel he is leading us. We are holding fast to the belief that God’s provision and timing are perfect even though we might not understand these things at the time.
There are many people in Nicaragua who need help in a multitude of ways. Living Hope Nicaragua has been founded on the desire to help people in need. We sincerely believe that helping others is the best way we can serve God. We embrace Jesus’ words, “… whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Matthew 25:40 NIV).
Volunteering for Hope offers opportunities to people from different countries around the world to come and volunteer in our work. Learn more about mission trips on www.livinghopenicaragua.org/mission-teams/
Tourists who are visiting in Nicaragua are welcome to volunteer in the different programs we currently have in progress. Many lives will be blessed by your volunteering work in our ministry, and we hope your life will be blessed as well.
Our English program is being opened for volunteers. When in Nicaragua, you can volunteer in our English classes by speaking in English with the students. Introducing yourself, telling about your travels, sharing a little about your country and culture, telling about your experiences in Nicaragua (including such things as the culture, food, people, particular places) are all topics of interest to our students. These interactions with other speakers of English provide opportunities for our students to listen to and to speak in English as a means of improving their learning of English.
You will also have the opportunity to practice your Spanish and/or learn more Spanish. Students will enjoy asking you questions in Spanish and also teaching you additional Spanish words.
English classes take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 to 4:30 pm. You are welcome to join us those days during our class times when our times fit into your schedule.
You will certainly make a lot of new friends. Nicaraguan young people love making new friends. We think and hope you will want to come again. You are welcome to come as many times as you can.
Another way you can volunteer is to participate in our “Mercy Program.” We cook food for homeless people, for adults and children who live in poor neighborhoods, for people who work at the dump, as well as for incarcerated people. We periodically take this food to those locations. When you let us know that you want to participate in this program, we can give you our schedule.
We need your financial assistance to provide this food. You are welcome to purchase groceries in the local markets and also to help us prepare the food. We have found these experiences to be intensely eye-opening and worthwhile, and we think they will be for you as well. English students (your new friends) might be invited to join us to deliver and serve the food. We alternate our locations for visitation, so we welcome your input as to which site you prefer for your service. You’re also welcome to schedule one of these areas of service as many times as our schedules coordinate.
When you participate as a volunteer in Living Hope Nicaragua, you will be invited to volunteer in other programs we offer as well.
