Sponsorship

“For a better future”

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

INTRODUCTION

The ministry Living Hope Nicaragua, through its English Program Nica-ELL (English Language Learning), is committed to seeking educational opportunities that will enable young people to have a better future. We are providing what we consider to be an excellent tool—learning the English language. A tangible testimony to how the English program has changed lives is evident in our team members. Through our program, team members have reached a level of proficiency in English that equips them to teach students in our Levels 1, 2, and 3.  It is our desire that, through learning English, many other young people will have opportunities opened to them.

The sponsorship program is envisioned as a way to support the English Program. We have created Sponsorship for a Better Future with the purpose of helping these young people in their quest for a better life.  We would like to encourage people who have a love for helping others to be a part of this program.

Through the program, a sponsor can enable a young person between the ages of 15 and 30 to be benefited by the Nica-ELL English Program. The student sponsored will study English with us for the whole course of one year and three months. The person sponsored will study through five levels of English to reach a proficient level of English language use. A student who graduates from the program should be able to speak, understand, read and write in English. At the end of the course, this student should have the proficiency to obtain a job that requires English as a second language.

An added bonus is that this graduate could be eligible to become an English teacher in the English Program of Living Hope Nicaragua. Another employment opportunity offered through Living Hope Nicaragua is working as a translator for mission teams that come to Nicaragua through our Mission Team Program.

We currently have more than 100 English students in the English Program, and it is our desire that each has a sponsor. The sponsor would have the opportunity to exchange letters with the sponsored student. The letters would be sent through Living Hope Nicaragua. The sponsor would also be very welcome to come to Nicaragua through our Mission Team Program and visit our English Program students. Learn more about our programs in www.livinghopenicaragua.org

Description of Sponsorship for a Better Future

You can sponsor an English student by donating $30 a month to the ministry Living Hope Nicaragua. The English course lasts 15 months. You can even sponsor more than one student if you desire.

The monthly investment provides for: English materials for each of the five levels; 24 hours of class per month; additional English materials for reinforcing the classes such as videos, audios, handouts; an English Program T-shirt. This investment would also provide an English teacher for the whole course. And, finally, the sponsorship would provide for assistance by the teacher in the preparation of English letters to exchange with sponsors. The exchange of letters would occur approximately once every three months or at the end of each level.

An English student who reaches Level 5 would receive a Spanish-English bilingual Bible. Students in Level 5 use a bilingual Bible as a part of the lessons. As a Christian ministry, we believe that teaching English can change the future of a student. Additionally, we believe that giving the student the Word of God can change their eternal life. For this reason, we begin classes with prayer and the sharing of Scripture. Students are sometimes asked to lead the prayer either in English or in Spanish. And they are also invited to make comments in English about the Scripture of the day.

English students in Level 5 receive class with a North American teacher, Patricia Striplin from Tallahassee, Florida. We meet once a week with the Level 5 students. This class is conducted through Skype; and, periodically, Patricia is able to come to Nicaragua to teach the class in Leon.

We really believe that you can make a huge difference in the life of a Nicaraguan young person through the sponsorship program. You would not only be instrumental in changing someone’s life, but your own life might be changed as well.

The King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

Matthew 25:40 NIV

The students who participate in our English program have no economic resources to pay for a private English academy, but each one has a desire to learn this language. Many of our students are still in high school and others are working on a degree in the public university, which is tuition free. Others have a university degree but are unemployed because of the economic situation of the country. They are seeking other opportunities. Most of our students come from very poor neighborhoods or from small towns outside the city of León and have to use public transportation to get to the classes. We see in our students an intense desire to better themselves, and we feel an intense desire to provide a pathway, an opportunity to enrich their lives.

You can be part of this amazing work in the Nica-ELL Program and Sponsorship for a Better Future.
